A safe-driving rule does not raise the policy limit
Written rules for who may drive, a check of motor-vehicle records, and a ban on phones behind the wheel can change how often the trucks crash. They do not change what the commercial auto policy pays. The limit on the declarations is still the most the contract pays. A safety program is not a substitute for that limit, and it is not a guaranteed discount.
Match the vehicle to the job. A personal auto policy does not cover a truck hauling for hire, and a commercial policy does not automatically cover an employee’s own car on a company errand unless hired and non-owned auto is listed. A certificate of insurance shows a client what is in force. It does not add a driver or a vehicle you forgot to schedule.
A DUI is an underwriting event as well as a legal one. Carriers can non-renew or refuse to list that driver. That is not the same as the policy paying the claim from the night it happened, if the driver was covered then. What a DUI does to the next policy: DUI insurance. Being dropped: can an auto insurer drop you.
