A motor vehicle record is the state’s history of the license. Insurers use it to price the policy. The Colorado liability floor stays $25,000, $50,000, and $15,000 whether the record is clean or not.
Colorado points start at zero. The Division of Motor Vehicles counts violation dates, not conviction dates. A hearing officer must suspend if the point totals are met. The officer’s discretion is the length, up to one year, and whether a probationary license is available. Drivers 17 and under are at 6 or more points in any 12 months, or 7 or more while under 18. Ages 18 to 21 are at 9 or more in 12 months, 12 or more in 24 months, or 14 or more at any time between 18 and 21. Age 21 and over is 12 or more in 12 months, or 18 or more in 24 months. A chauffeur who can show the tickets were on the job is at 16 or more in 12 months, 24 or more in 24, or 28 or more in 48. This page will not list points per mile per hour.
