Is Texas a Good Place to Move? Best Cities to Live

Texas · A new address is a new rate

This page will not rank the best city. Moving changes the ZIP code on the car, the rebuild cost on the house, and whether flood is a separate policy.

Texas has no state income tax. That is not an insurance discount. Auto liability is still 30/60/25, and the premium follows where the car is garaged and who drives it. Homeowners Coverage A is rebuild cost, not the price you paid, and a hail deductible is often a percent of that limit. Two percent of $450,000 is $9,000. That is an example. Flood is not a homeowners peril, including in neighborhoods that are not in a high-risk zone. TDI has noted that in Hurricane Harvey, more than half of the flooded homes were outside high-risk zones.

Update the policies before the truck arrives. A car registered in Texas needs liability in the owner’s name. TexasSure checks that. The old state’s card does not follow you. A house you will live in needs an owner-occupant form. A house you will rent out needs a landlord form. If you buy and occupy it as your principal residence, the school homestead exemption is $140,000. The Comptroller’s example is a $300,000 appraisal taxed for school purposes as if it were $160,000. That cuts taxable value. It does not set Coverage A. You cannot claim a second homestead.
