Colorado · No statewide boy-versus-girl premium
There is no Colorado average that says one gender pays more for car insurance. This page will not invent one. What the policy charges still depends on the record, the car, the coverages, and where it is garaged.
Senate Bill 21-169 prohibits an insurer from unfairly discriminating based on sex, gender identity, or gender expression, among other traits, in any insurance practice. It also restricts using external consumer data, an algorithm, or a predictive model that unfairly discriminates on those bases, under rules the insurance commissioner adopts. The legislature’s summary says those rules were not to take effect before January 1, 2023, and they are adopted by type of insurance and by practice. That is not a published male-versus-female price table, and it is not a promise that two quotes will match. The Colorado liability floor is $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $15,000 property damage. Collision is not required by the state on a paid-off car. Uninsured motorist coverage is optional. An old rejection from another state does not fill it in.
Staying legal: Colorado auto laws. What the phrase leaves out: full coverage. A house policy does not set the auto rate: Colorado homeowners. Bundling, as a carrier credit rather than a statute: home and auto together.
