Home Insurance in Plano
Our Plano home insurance page uses a typical home value of about $465,900 and a typical annual premium of about $2,360, and it illustrates a rate of about $1,416 a year through our agency. These are illustrations, not quotes; your price depends on the home, the roof, your claims history, and the coverage you choose.
When we quote a Plano home, we check the dwelling coverage against today’s rebuilding costs, the wind and hail deductible, whether the roof is covered at replacement cost or actual cash value, and your personal liability limit. North Texas hail seasons make the roof terms and deductible choices matter as much as the premium. See our Plano home insurance rates page for more detail.
Auto Insurance in Plano
Our Plano car insurance page illustrates an average of about $152.14 a month. With the Dallas North Tollway, U.S. 75, and the President George Bush Turnpike all running through Plano, liability limits and uninsured motorist coverage deserve a close look.
Texas requires at least 30/60/25 liability coverage: $30,000 for each injured person, $60,000 for all injuries in one accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Those minimums are low compared with the cost of a serious accident on busy North Texas highways, so we usually show higher limits side by side with the minimum so you can compare the price difference. Our Plano car insurance page explains the common coverages, and our auto insurance rate calculator gives you a rough estimate in a couple of minutes.
Flood, Business, and Other Coverage
Standard homeowners policies do not cover flood damage, and heavy spring storms can flood streets and yards well outside mapped flood zones. Most new flood policies also have a waiting period before coverage begins, so it is worth arranging before storm season. Read our Plano flood insurance guide. We also quote renters, condo, landlord, umbrella, boat, RV, and business insurance for Plano-area clients.
A Short History of Plano
Plano lies about 16 miles northeast of Dallas on Collin County’s Blackland Prairie. Settlers with the Peters Colony, many from Tennessee and Kentucky, arrived in 1845 and 1846, drawn by the rich soil. William Foreman bought land in the area and opened a sawmill and gristmill that attracted more settlers.
The settlement had no name until residents, led by Dr. Dye, proposed one. After the names Fillmore and Foreman were turned down, Dr. Dye suggested Plano, a Spanish word for “plain” that describes the flat land. Plano received a post office in 1851. The Houston and Texas Central Railway reached town in 1872, and Plano was incorporated in 1873. A fire destroyed most of the business district in 1881, and residents rebuilt it in brick.
Plano stayed a farming town until the mid-1900s. The growth of Dallas and the arrival of large employers, including Frito-Lay and J.C. Penney, turned it into one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas. The population reached 128,713 in 1990 and 222,030 in 2000, and Plano was named an All-America City in 1994. Today it is a major business center known for community events such as its hot-air balloon festival each September.
Plano Insurance FAQs
Do I need to visit the Plano office?
No. Most clients handle everything by phone or email. If you would like to meet in person, call ahead for an appointment so an agent is available.
How many insurance companies do you compare?
We work with more than 25 carriers, so we can compare several options for the same coverage instead of offering a single company’s price.
Can I bundle home and auto insurance?
Yes. Many carriers discount both policies when you place home and auto together. We quote both ways so you can see whether the bundle actually saves you money.
Does homeowners insurance cover flooding?
No. Flood damage needs a separate flood policy, and most new flood policies have a waiting period before coverage begins.
What do I need for a quote?
For home insurance, have your address, the year the roof was replaced, and your current policy if you have one. For auto, have each driver’s date of birth and license number, and each vehicle’s year, make, and model or VIN.
