Home and Auto Insurance Bundles in Texas

Texas · Home and Auto · Bundling

A home and auto bundle is a multi-policy discount and one renewal date. It is not, by itself, better coverage. The discount applies only if the same carrier writes both policies, and only at the credit that carrier actually filed. A cheaper bundle can still be the wrong purchase if the dwelling limit, the liability limits, or the deductibles were cut to win the price. Educational only. We do not promise a fixed “save 40 percent.”

Compare the same limits. Put the bundle next to two separate policies only when bodily injury limits, property damage limits, collision and comprehensive deductibles, the dwelling limit, and the wind deductible match. Otherwise you are comparing different products. Texas homeowners insurance · car insurance in Texas.

The credit is not guaranteed. It varies by carrier, ZIP code, the coverages you pick, claims history, and credit-based insurance scoring where Texas allows it. Anyone quoting a fixed percent off without your application is advertising.

1. What the bundle actually changes

You still have two contracts. The homeowners form pays covered damage to the house and your liability as a homeowner. The auto form pays liability to others and, if you bought them, collision and comprehensive on the cars. The bundle does not merge those promises. A hail claim on the roof does not use your auto deductible, and a crash does not use the wind deductible on the house.

What you gain is a pricing credit for placing both with one company, and one desk for renewals and ID cards. What you can lose is the better price or the better form on one of the two lines. If carrier A is stronger on the home and carrier B is stronger on the autos, the discount has to beat that gap. Sometimes it does. Sometimes splitting them is cheaper and better. The only way to know is two quotes with matched limits.

2. Where people cheapen the wrong thing

  • Dropping liability limits to make the auto side look inexpensive. Those limits pay other people. They are not a deductible you can shrug off to win a discount.
  • Cutting the dwelling limit toward the tax appraisal or the sale price. The claim pays to rebuild, not to sell.
  • Raising the wind or collision deductible without checking that you can pay it. High or low auto deductibles.
  • Ignoring roof settlement. Replacement cost versus actual cash value changes the hail check more than a bundle credit does. Replacement cost versus actual cash value.

FAQ

Does bundling always save money in Texas?

No. Many carriers offer a multi-policy credit. The credit can be smaller than what you give up by leaving a better separate price or a better form. Compare matched quotes.

Is a bundle one policy?

No. Home and auto stay separate contracts. They share a company and often a discount. A claim on one does not use the other policy’s deductible.

Can I bundle and still be underinsured?

Yes. The discount does not check whether the dwelling limit would rebuild the house or whether the auto liability limits are enough. Those are separate choices.

Why won’t you quote a percent off?

Because the percent depends on your application. A fixed “save 40 percent” with no address, cars, or coverages is not a quote.
