Your policy pays for a rental only if that coverage is on the form
There are two different rentals. If you cause a crash, your liability can pay the other person’s reasonable cost of a car while theirs is being repaired. That does not put you in a rental. Your own rental, while your car is in the shop, comes from a rental reimbursement or transportation endorsement. Collision and comprehensive pay to fix your car. They do not automatically pay the rental.
Texas auto and does Texas car insurance cover rental cars. A rental you book for a trip is a third question: rental cars and credit cards.
When the endorsement pays, and when it stops
It pays after a covered collision or comprehensive loss, up to the daily limit and the number of days on the declarations page. It does not pay for a mechanical breakdown, an oil change, or the days before the claim is a covered loss. If you only carry liability, there is no rental for your car, because there is no coverage repairing your car in the first place. “Full coverage” means liability plus collision plus comprehensive. It still does not include rental unless the endorsement is listed. Liability versus full coverage and full coverage.
The other driver’s rental, when you are at fault, is their loss of use. It comes out of your property-damage liability limit, along with the repair of their car. It is not your rental endorsement.
