The knowledge test does not issue the policy
Colorado’s driver knowledge test checks the handbook. The driving skills test checks the car. Neither one is an insurance policy. Once the license is in the wallet, the state still expects continuous proof of liability insurance on the vehicle. Failing to keep that proof is a separate problem from failing the test.
The knowledge test covers signs, rules of the road, DUI, and safety items from that handbook. Some people take it in an office, some through an approved provider, and Colorado also offers an at-home knowledge test that still needs a follow-up office visit before the credential is issued. Vision screening happens at issuance. Driver education rules for minors are on the DMV’s minor driver education page and the broader driver education section.
What the license still requires on the road
Colorado’s liability floor is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $15,000 for property damage. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is optional in Colorado. The floor is the legal minimum, not a recommendation for what a serious crash costs. How the law works: Colorado car insurance laws. Liability in more detail: Colorado liability. Options: Colorado car insurance options.
