Texas · The shop does not change the policy
There is no statewide top-10 of body shops. The useful questions are who writes the estimate, which parts it lists, and whether the car is a repair or a total loss.
Collision pays a covered crash. Comprehensive pays hail, theft, and the other non-crash losses. The deductible on that coverage comes off the covered repair. A direct-repair shop is a network the insurer prefers. Using it is not required unless the policy says the claim is payable only there. You can usually pick the shop and still have a covered claim. The shop cannot add a coverage you did not buy, and mechanical wear is still not collision or comprehensive.

The same collision idea in another state: Missouri collision. The card you still need after the car is fixed: insurance and registration.
