Is Motorcycle Insurance Expensive in Texas?

Texas · Motorcycle

A motorcycle is expensive to insure when you are insuring the bike, not just the law

Liability pays other people. It is the part that makes the bike legal to ride, and it can be the smaller bill. Collision and comprehensive pay to repair or replace the motorcycle, at actual cash value minus the deductible. A sport bike that costs a lot to fix, or that is stolen often, is expensive on those two coverages. A paid-off bike with liability only is a different product.

No statewide “expensive.” The quote is the rider, the VIN, the ZIP, and the deductibles. A blog average is not that quote.

More on price, still without a fake average: how much motorcycle insurance costs in Texas. The product: motorcycle insurance.

What the car policy does not do

Your auto policy does not cover the motorcycle. A car’s liability follows you in some rented cars. It does not follow you onto a bike you own. The bike needs its own policy. Texas financial responsibility for a motor vehicle on the road is the liability idea. Confirm the limits on the declarations page rather than assuming the car’s 30/60/25 printed onto the bike. The regulator: Texas Department of Insurance.

Winter storage does not erase comprehensive. A bike in a garage can still be stolen or catch fire, and a lay-up credit, if the company offers one, only applies when you are not riding and you asked for it. Winter hazards.

Tell us the bike and whether you want it repaired or only need to be legal. Ask an agent.
