The truck’s policy does not insure the trailer’s body
Many personal auto policies extend liability to a trailer you own while it is hitched, meaning they can pay people you hurt or property you damage with it. They do not pay to repair the trailer after hail, a theft, or a crash unless the trailer is scheduled for physical damage. That scheduling is the travel-trailer or RV policy.
Colorado RV insurance, RV insurance, and travel trailer insurance.
What physical damage pays
Collision pays when the trailer hits something or is hit. Comprehensive, other than collision, pays hail, theft, fire, and a falling tree. Colorado hail is the claim that makes comprehensive matter on a trailer parked in the open. Both stop at the limit you scheduled, minus the deductible, and a total loss is actual cash value unless the form says otherwise. The tow vehicle’s comprehensive does not spill onto the trailer. Living in it, and storing it
A weekend trailer is not a house. If you live in it, you need a full-timer form. A homeowners or renters policy does not follow you into the camper as a dwelling, and contents off premises are often capped. Full-time RV is the idea, even though that page is written for Texas. A storage or lay-up period can change the premium only if the company offers it and you actually are not using the trailer. It does not delete comprehensive hail while the trailer sits outside. Year-round versus seasonal, same mechanism: RV insurance all year.
The tow vehicle still needs its own coverages: Colorado car insurance options.
