Telematics Discounts for Texas Auto Insurance

Texas auto · A score can move either way

A telematics program can raise or lower the auto premium. It does not change the Texas liability floor, and this page will not quote a percent off.

The app or the device records how the car is driven. Programs commonly look at mileage, hard braking, and the time of day. Those are underwriting inputs for that carrier. They are not a state formula, and they do not add a coverage. Liability is still $30,000 per person, $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 property damage if that is what the declarations say. Uninsured motorist, personal injury protection, rental, and gap are still separate lines. “Full coverage” still means liability plus collision plus comprehensive, not the app. Signing up is a condition of that quote. It is not a law that every Texas driver must be monitored. If the driving the program records is sharp, the renewal can cost more than the quote that assumed a discount.

A listed teen is still a driver on the policy. A program on that car does not replace listing a household teen who drives, and it is not a good-student credit. Mileage can change the price. It does not change what a crash pays. Paint color is still not a rating factor. Shopping other quotes does not raise the rate. A lapse does. If you leave the program or the company, bind the next policy so the dates overlap, then cancel. The data the app keeps is whatever that company’s terms say. This page will not invent a retention period.

The policy underneath the app: car insurance in Texas and what it covers. Leaving without a gap: switching. A household driver: teen drivers. The wider picture: home and auto together. The state hub: Texas.

Ask whether the quote assumes the program, and what happens at renewal if the score goes up. Ask an agent or start an auto quote.
